SPECIAL DISTRICTS
The core of our practice is organizing and representing metropolitan
and other special districts. Once formed, these local government
entities allow for the provision of a wide range of necessary public
improvements and services. Special districts are formed for the
purpose of funding public infrastructure needed to support new commercial
or residential developments that cannot otherwise be provided by
the governing county and/or municipality.
Since 1988, McGeady Sisneros has served as general counsel to more
than 200 special districts throughout
Colorado, from the Front Range to the Western Slope, and the list
continues to expand. Members of our Firm
have over twenty-five (25) years of experience in all aspects of
special district representation, including organization, elections,
meetings, open records, construction and construction financing,
right-of-way acquisition, improvement operations, intergovernmental
agreements, public finance, and debt issuance and restructuring.
In addition, our Firm has represented clients in evaluating the
impacts of property being included or excluded from a special district
and evaluating the enforceability of liens and agreements with special
districts.
Our Firm has also been involved in the establishment of urban renewal
authorities, downtown development authorities, and the organization
of general improvement districts, special improvement districts,
local improvement districts, business improvement districts, public
improvement districts and covenant-created public improvement fee
financings, as well as the consolidation and dissolution of special
districts.
